A steering aid is used to assist with one handed steering or where a driver may have limited arm or shoulder strength. There are many types of steering aids available but most of them sit within three categories: ball shape, peg shape or a tetra-grip.
The ball shape, commonly referred to as a steering knob, is by far the most popular version of a steering aid, contributing to over 95% of our steering aid sales. Although known as a steering ball, the handle is not completely spherical but has a flatter top that sits in the palm as it is grasped from the front. We sometimes refer to it as mushroom shaped.
The steering peg is a longer, thinner handle that is generally grasped from the side. At the bottom of the handle there is a slightly wider plate that most users rest the base of their clenched hand against.
Whether you have the ball shape or peg shape is completely customer preference and is not dictated by which car you choose.
The tetra-grip is also another option that can be installed but this is usually only chosen if the driver has a weaker grip and needs additional support around the wrist to help hold and manoeuvre the steering aid. The spoke that is gripped is very similar to the peg style steering aid but it sits on a larger plate with two additional pegs which can be adjusted and positioned to support the wrist.
All three of the above steering aids are supplied in a clamp with a quick release mechanism meaning that once installed, the steering aid can easily be removed from the clamp to be stored out of the vehicle or temporarily moved for another driver.

If a conventional steering aid is not suitable for your requirements, it may be that a remote control device will assist. These adaptations combine a steering aid with a keypad to operate the secondary functions such as indicators and lights and further information can be found on our website.
